I have an 01 Classic that needs a few strands of the fiberoptic lights. I noticed they are either gone or broken.
Is this something that needs to be gotten at a wrecking yard? Bought new? or just SOL?

I think there is a central plastic block with a light bulb inside and all the fiber strands kinda plug into it. I have replaced a strand before, but it was years ago. I would be very surprised if you can't get parts.

You can get new ones at the Freightliner dealer. I replaced a couple in my Classic, but it really wasn't worth it. If you do decide to replace them, give them the VIN so they can give you the labels in the right order.

On top of being too expensive, they didn't really improve things much. I replaced the bulbs as well, but the tags were still hard to see even with the dash lights at full.
As far as any parts for the Classic; Freightliner *just* discontinued it (end of December '09), so I expect new parts will be available for quite some time.
