D13A had some cyl. head problems. burned valves. Volvo changed heads as unit with remanufacted and problem was solved. D13B-D have no these issues.

Engine is good but not so easy to work on, like timing gears in end of engine, additional steel plates inside, suffisticated and expencive injectors.

Some D13 and D11 had oil leak in timing gear cover caused with too short bolts cover is held with.

If they offer SCR equiped engine (AdBlue, EPA2010/Euro-V) do not purchase it. SCR is a modern toy and there are many problems with bad direction valve, bad pump, leaking carbomide injector, faults with hose heaters... The real nightmare!

D9B and D11 are poor engines!

I do not like I-shift and 13sp trannies too!

IMO! look for VNL with ISX and 10 st tranny! less issues! And you can do any reprogramming works with powertraine w/o expencive Volovo dealer, becouse so many workshops have Cummins Insite!

Had an '06 Volvo, ISX 475, 7.6 MPG (IFTA) EGR valve replaced 3X under warranty. (Freedom-line transmission)

Currently in a Volvo, D13 435, getting 6.5 MPG, only 50K miles so far, with no major issues so far. (I-Shift Transmission)

FWIW Both were w/Super Singles and pulling 53' dry vans

I own 2007 volvo 780,ISX 500hp,13sp,620000mi.I seen 5.5 to 7.0mpg,depend on the loads and terrain.Recently I have problems with engine brake(not working with full power, don't know why).Anyway:be shure you are going to have problems with every kind of engine, but choose Cummins(more power and chipper parts than Volvo).

Hey Pablo...We are starting to see early D13's give camshaft trouble on the exhaust lobe of number 5 cylinder. I have seen a few in the UK do similar damage. Is this what you are seeing in UA? Volvo quoted us 7,000 euros to repair one 2007 truck...3,800 euros for the camshaft alone. What has your experience been with them?

What are the costs involved in repairing them in UA...Do Volvo offer any special reduction in the parts required?

it was warranty thing. Volvo sent us rebuilt cyl. heads and we send faulty heads back. I notied that they used additinal brass gromets under injectors. So I ugest the problem was in wrong position of injector and may be with wrong injection pattern.

After all engines in garage were fixed, problem never appeared againe.

Really not D13 only had this issue. D9B (380-400HP), had the same problem olved the same way
