Looking into getting one of these this summer, and wondering what people have to say.

My reasons for going with it are ride, and space. I have a family member who has a 880 with the D-16. He has had some engine problems, which i hear that motor is notorious for. I got to go on the inside and i loved it right away. The work station, all that storage, the space, and the huge fridge.

I've have driven the Cascadia, and century and didnt care for them at all. I currently drive a Pete 387 and love it, but it lacks storage.

Can anyone give input on dependability on the engine and truck? Fuel milages? Weight? any info would be great!

To be honest i dont remember. I know it sat in the shop for three days with engine issues. It has less than 100k on it. He also said the D16 was a monster and great puller, but heavier than h*** and hard to keep the steers right.

I hear the D12 is a nightmere, but havent heard much on the D13, which is the D12s replacement. I see threads back from 07-08 saying volvos have elec and MPG issues.

I would really like to know about the 780 with the cummings. How is that combo working out. I really like the volvo rig also but think that the cummings with 13 speed sounds like a good combo.

I have owned several volvos, petes, kw, freightliner etc. The volvos I have had in the past 5 with cummins isx 460, 3 with volvo d12, Both did great jobs but the cummins was better on fuel, Currently own 15 units, 205 modles have the cummins in them with the egr valves, Up to 750,000 miles on these great on fuel very dependalbe. the odd turbo or egr valve as well as fuel transfer pums. the 2006 and 2007 modles I have are mix between the Cummins 535, Volvo D16 and Volvo d12, the cummins modles are the same dependable units the 2005 are , the D 16 is the most troublesome engine I have ever owned, I have a couple of these both around 460,000 miles One has had a few heads put on it due to poor valve guides.the d 16 uses a presureized cooling system if you own one have it disconected they will blow the radior apart. the d12s I have are reliable. the odd egr valve problem likely due to a egr cooler leaking antifreeze and then effecting the egr valve. thay are lacking a bit of power in comparioson off course and Fuel mialage is a bit lower than the cummins but still a very sound engine. I would not hesitate to purchase another D12 at all.

We run D13's at work in our newer Volvo's. The engine itself is good but little nuisance sensors mess up. Nothing that keeps the truck from being run but enough to keep you watching those gauges REAL close.

I have an '08 780 with the D13. It's been a pretty reliable engine # 210k miles now. I'm having an issue right now with the injector (#4) and injector pins. The injector was replaced 6 wks ago at $1500 and now the injector "pins" (same #4) I'm told are bad and being replaced at $572. Sounds fishy to me that the pins weren't handled 6 wks ago when the injector was replaced and they had it on the computer. Anyone know anything about this one?

Most part, the 780 is a very nice ride, good fuel mileage (6.5-7.5) and the D13 with the 13 spd does the job (we go lower 48 and Can).

I have an '08 780VNL64 D13 with 13spd. It had very few micky mouse things wrong with it for about 6 months and then a long stretch (1 yr) with nothing going wrong. Now at just over 200k I've had to replace an injector, belt tensioner, persistent leaking coolant connector, injector pins, and it needs a three axle alignment. Really nothing serious and it's getting 6.5 to 7.5 mpg. Amazing enough - the pipes look as clean on the inside as they do on the outside. Volvo did a good job.
