The info on this thread has been really helpful. I just bought a 2004 780 with a Cummins 530 and a 13 speed. It was a one owner non-fleet truck. He took very good care of it. I'll post my feedback going forward.

Please do, we bought from Arrow and it was definitely NOT well taken of. We plan on paying this one off this year though and buying '09 780. Wish we'd found an individual. :biggrin_25524:

Gentlemen, please, drop the crass language, preferably in the trash can. Got it?

Oh, and this is not a "suggestion"... It IS a warning.

The OP/given topic is for people who have owned or driven Volvos to help with some input. Your first sentence tells the story - you're not posting to help, or add useful information. The mods probably should've just pulled your post when they locked the thread down.

I'd like to know how company trucks impede your forward progress. They certainly don't impede mine any - I don't tote flats, dry vans or reefers. And outside of that - most company trucks are freightshakers, and I don't hear anyone crapping about their lousy build quality and endless squeaks, whistles and rattles - or the fact that they're owned by Daimler (Mercedes).

Volvo makes heavy haul trucks alright - I just saw an 830 on the road yesterday - probably with the D16. I'd looked at the 880 when I was shopping, but it turns out I don't need one with the Cummins power option available.

The posters aren't talking about the Volvo warranty (on a brand new truck), they're talking about a dealer warranty. The only thing available on used trucks is engine and drivetrain. For those with enough revenue to buy brand new equipment, a warranty is kind of a side issue anyway - you can probably afford a spare truck. I know if I have the option to buy a brand new truck, I'll keep the one I have now as a back-up. Then again, I'll probably buy an older model Volvo and build up a runner instead. As long as it has the Cummins motor and an Eaton 13 - I can do the rest myself. If I can't pay for a power mirror, then there's probably something wrong with my business plan.

As scary as it is to read all the issues others are having with their trucks - if you buy an old Swifty fleet truck, it's probably bad news. Mine was from Raven's fleet, and from what their drivers say (and I've seen) they order great equipment and take care of it. The craziest part of all of these "issues" with Volvos that people post about, is that I almost never see Volvo's on the shoulder - no matter what color is under the hood. Know what brand I see broken the most? Freightshaker - they should be issued a ticket for littering the highway shoulders of america. It could be maintenance (or a lack thereof) or marketshare and the result of sheer numbers - but they're all over the place.

Now let's go about this another way - if Volvo builds such a crappy truck - what happened with the Pete 387? That design is an abortion at best. It's nothing but a bad copy of the T2000 - which are all bad copies of the original aero truck - the Volvo. Don't believe me? Pull up some ads of old trucks, Volvo really hasn't changed their design that much in the last 30 years. Then again, why should they - they've been building trucks longer than Peterbilt, Kenworth, or Freightliner.

I just took delivery of my ARROW purchased 2005 vnl 670, 387,000 miles on it. It was a company truck-Sytems out of spokane wa.
I drove it back over Donner Summit this past evening, and other than having airbags on the steer(something tha I will have to get use to!) and a wiper blade coming apart, I have no complaints, YET.
    i WILL KEEP POSTED.

mine has only been on the side of the road twice in 3 1/2 years. Once for a blown steer tire, which I can't blame on Volvo! And once for the belt tensioner quitting on my ISX.

With companies like Swift, Interstate, Hill Brothers, Churchill... just to name a few, that have these trucks in their fleet, I cant hardly see them being the worst thing on the road. Every truck has its pros and cons. The one thin i've gathered from drivers at truck stops is that the D12 is pretty underpowered compared to Cummins and Cat.

I have driven a Cascadia with a DD-15, and thought that was a sluggish engine. It has a coolant leak that to this day has not been fixed or found. It has electrical issues as well.

I have driven a Century Class... that thing was a loud and rough riding truck. It had a Detroit 60 series that, while more powerfull than the DD-15, was still lacking in the power department. That truck had so many whistles and road noises it was insane.

I Currently drive a 09 Pete 387. Not impressed at ALL with the inside. Its loud, the interior squeeks, the dashboard is all ready borken, cracked, and falling apart. The paint on the plastic trim peices is chipping away. And that was with only 127,000 miles on it! The hood latches squeek up something terrible when go over even the slightest bumps. The cummins is a great motor how ever.

Now, I'm looking to go to a company that has pretty much ALL Volvos, where, from everything I've read, have on of the best lease to own options available. My credit is badly damaged from loosing my job back in 08, so traditional financing is not an option.

THIS is why im asking about VOLVO and nothing else.
