I have a Detroit 60 Series with a low oil light that comes on after a while and then goes out. This would repeat over and over. Now low oil light comes on after a 10 or 15 min of running and stays on until I shut off the truck. I can start it up right away and the light goes out, few minutes later it comes on again. Looking at the dipstick it shows oil leve is at the full mark.

The oil pressure gauge shows 40psi at idle and 50psi + when on the road.

Could this be my low oil sensor switch acting up and if so does anyone know where it is located.

Sounds like an older truck. You probably have a truck that has a mechanical low oil pressure warning switch that is acting up. You would have to put at mechanical gauge on it, or connect a computer to read what the engine ECM oil pressure sensor is reading to make sure.

The oil pressure is reading 40 - 50 psi depending on the engine rpm.

Therefore the problem is not the oil pump, bearings etc.
The problem I think is the oil pressure sensor.

Agreed, I think your engine has good pressure, mechanically it is fine. You just have an electrical bug.

I had same problem years back. it was bad electrical connection. after replacing all jumper cables on the 4 batteries, & main ground & hot cables, problem was solved. do not know wich one was the actual cause, but figured wich ever one it was the others were not far behind. mine got damaged by the liquid salt up north in the winter. the visible bare wire protruding from the end cable looked good, until you cut & pulled back the insulated coating, that salt would seep under the coating & had my cables green. I replaced my sensor too. still had problem, until I changed all cables.

We tested the oil pressure sensor located at the back of the engine on the drivers side. The sensor passed. However 60 miles down the road the light and buzzer went off again. I decided to replace the sensor with a new one. The truck drove for 2,000 miles and no light or buzzer. Problem fixed.
