I'd love to read this one..........I've never seen a modified CAT
I forgot the C-15 ser# MBN........this is a 14.6L that uses the same electronic control system of the 2WS, 1MM of the 3406E along with the 6NZ C-15 and 7CZ C-16. The engine does use some different hard parts internally, but the software will interchange between them.
Help with jake brakes!

so the 1mm and the 2ws are actually 3406e's? I thought all the 40 pins were e's then when they introduced the 70pin thats when the C-15's started
-
No the 1MM and 2WS are considered 3406E models. The change from the E model to the C-15 had to do with fixing oil leaks at the front structure housing...........the oil pan corners cracking and gasket to the pan rail........the way the flywheel housing seals to the block. These parts don't interchange between the two models.
The front struture housing on the 1MM and 2WS doesn't interchange between anything.........these two engines have 2 timing sensors even though they seal to the block the same as the earlier E models.
You can actually take the lower block plate off a B model and use it on a E model to stiffen the lower block structure. -
learn something new everyday... I always thought the change over was the 70pin. I guess its actually when they changed the bolts on the front timing cover to the torque head ones?
-
You will also notice that C-15 block has the the old b camshaft location removed on the top left side, they called this a sculpted design to save some weight.

Hey :
I think it be best , I just drive my truck and enjoy what I know I have ,.
I am sure I have some numbers and facts mixed up.
She runs good , and has more power than I have ever seen from a big truck. Went from low 5s Mpg to Low 8s MPG and the rest is history.
I am not about to get the dealer in any trouble here and am totally sure what they did was legal and I know what ever ECM they put on it works.
As far as the EPA goes. I did not vote them in nor did any one else. They are a Government installed org.
No voting took place .
I do not run california and never will. they are not part of the US any more IMO.
Mr, Haney seems to know more about CATS then I even care to.
Thank You for your replys.
Legal ? I really do not care..
Back in the 80s I ran with an expired plate for 3 years and just paid the fines. It came out to less than the cost of the plates per year.
Yep , I ran illeagal .... I would now if I could. Can't , So I won't....
Happy day >Last edited: Mar 15, 2010

you sure don't seem to take being corrected too lightly... kinda remind me of my ole lady
CL10473 Thanks this. -
Hey :
I have no issue with being wrong about these things. I was trying to tell the guy that asked what I did , What I did.
Then , The lawyers jumped in and took off in a different direction.
I really don't , didn't and never will care what a government agency thinks about what we or I or you do . I would not mess with what you wished to do with your personal property.
My issue with being "corrected " has nothing to do with being off or ignorant of ser. Numbers........ It dose have a lot to do with , people that can not leave certain things alone.
Ever squeese 15 more minutes out of a days run to get somewhere ? Oh No, you broke the law.. get what I mean ?
None of what I was talking about on here had anything to do with making or keeping the EPA or anyone else happy.
But , I can see that maybe mixing "Old School" with the new breed does no go well. I am fine with that.
I also have to admit that maybe I have a lot more important things to do .
I am installing a new APU on my truck and really need to get back at it.
Just took a break to check in here .
No more breaks.
So while some here have been kind and very knowlegdeable , some have not. Where I stand doesn't really matter.. I already admitted I have limited knowledge on this issue.
You all have fun .kickin chicken Thanks this. -

Cat700. I appreciate you sharing your ideas and thoughts with us. Unfortunatly, from friggin massachusetts here, emission test is now part of the anual inspection. So have to be careful of modifications. I heard NJ is another state and who knows how many others? And then there is California. I keep hoping an earthquake or mudslide will make arizona beach front property...
But back to the point... some of us dont have the option of blowing off the EPA and emission crap...
Best of luck with you APU install....Last edited: Mar 16, 2010
