Ok i have a 07 volvo 780 with the same d-12 465 hp. 13 speed and 3.36 gearing . As far as engine i've got just a little over 1.2 million mi on it. 3 egr coolers, both egr valves replaced 5 times, 1 air compressor, 1 starter and the rest just normal maintenance belts hoses idler pulleys and such. But no major internal engine problems. Just get over head done every 150k or do it your self not hard just be sure to buy the right shims. Engine also known for the injector harness grommet in rocker cover leaking, have tried a lot of different things but still seeps and runs down on starter. Volvo does not have a fix for it. Just a good excuse to keep the engine clean. My trk is geared for high speed cruising get best fuel mi around 74-76 mph. Does a respectable job pulling mtns in the nw part of the country. Not sure about that automated trans though. Hope it helps

We have a 07 volvo780 d12 and it has cost us 17 thousand in repairs the first yr, 14 last yr and already at 10 thousand this yr we have replaced both egrs, drive shaft , egr air cooler, sitting on the side of the road for a tow truck now because the fuel pump we replaced last yr is gone out again and it it 1 month out of warrenty. I will never own another volvo with a volvo engine. We had over 2600 .00 in repairs in February trying to find an air leak, do not go with volvo. Wish we had gotten another freightliner instead. If you go with volvo make sure you have a nice back up in your bank acct. . Good luck

I have a 07 780 D16 13 spd with now 680k miles. I love my truck, parts are in my opinion priced to the market. I've own 18 trucks 32 vans, and reefers; i.e. a small fleet owner. Freightliners, Pete's, KWs, Volvos, even Internationals. The best situation you can put your in is pre emission low miles truck. "That means 07-08 & older."
The whole def system will put you out of business. Its design to keep you in the dealerships pocket. I've only been trucking 34 years and maybe there's something else I'm missing here. But I've made more money on pre emission equipment than the newer stuff hands down.
