Hi. I'm not a trucker but I know you guys can answer the question that I have. I have a VW Jetta and bought a 12 volt cooler to keep in my trunk because I work in the field and like to bring food with me. If I am parked and my car sits for 4+ hours, my cooler will kill my battery. I remember seeing something about this in the past but I can't find anything on it. I'm looking for a mechanism that will cut off my cooler power right before my battery dies so I will be able to start my car when I get back to it. Is there such thing? If so, where can I find one? Thanks so much for your guy's help!

I know that power inverters will do this, they also have an alarm that will tell you when your battery is getting low. Not sure about it having a 12v receptacle though.

You could get a solar powered trickle charger to help keep your battery up.

you can get a battery isolater where they sell campers and put in a second auxillary battery for the cooler then when the car is running it will charge both batteries but when off will only drain off the aux battery leaving the car battery charged for starting

My 2004 Kenworth W9 came with a Delco Remy low voltage disconnect, Model # 19020492.
Voltage off # 12.3 volts.
Google Delco Remy low voltage disconnect, look for dealer in Houston, he will sell them next to wholesale. (sorry I don't remember how much)
Solar charger is good idea also! -
or you could just unplug it..................i know wild idea right

I would put a marine battery in there with a lighter plug attached. When you get home put it on a charger. Or run it off your alternator if you travel a long distance with a disconnect in between two isolate it from the car battery. I have one of the low voltage cut-offs i my truck (name????) but its about $150.00.

I'm not that much of a techy guy. This thing looks pretty hard to hook up. I don't think I'd know how to do it. -
How much longer would you think I could run my cooler over what it already does? Does the weather affect the duration?
