Post your findings, I'd be interested in something like that!

The 3M™ Ceramic Series products are available in three visible light transmissions to meet your needs - CM 30, CM 40 & CM 50. Using nanotechnology we’ve created ceramics so fine they are not only invisible to the naked eye they are imperceptible with an ordinary microscope. These ceramics allow us to create a film that is tough, won’t corrode and is so clear your view will remain beautiful. The ceramic series will look good not just the first year, but for years to come. Sputtered metal films can corrode, often changing color on the edges. Films that rely on dyes are prone to fading over time, changing to a purplish hue. By using advanced ceramics, our film retains its color and appearance over time. By rejecting up to 59% of the total solar energy and up to 80% of the heat-producing infrared rays, you will feel more comfortable in your car.

I have my side windows tinted, i believe it is 35% and it is not dark enough to be noticeable by LE, but it does make a big difference from not having tint at all, especially when the sun it shining on your left side arm and body. The tint I have on there may not be very dark but it is very efficient at reflecting the heat. It is made by 3M and has reflecting capability.

What did you use? How much did it cost? Did you have it professionally installed?

I just had mine done...back window and side windows for $220, took about an hour and a half tops. I have a daycab and to have the sun beating down through the back window all day gets old.

I don't remember the numbers...maybe '5' for the back window (dam near blacked out) and '35' for the sides. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong on that. What the numbers mean, I don't know.

It is harder to see at night (more glare) but if the windows are kept clean it shouldn't be much of an issue.

Let us know how well it worked. I'm not sure but believe the number you are referring to is the percentage of visible light?

Do you remember the material used? (i.e. 3M, etc?)

I've had mine tinted for years. Generally as long as you're above 30% you won't have an issue. Sometime if I'm crossing a scale that I'm not familiar with I'll roll the passenger down an inch or so. I have rain deflectors so the scale can't even see its down a bit but the light will make the tint even lighter. I love it at night you hardly even notice bright light in them. The only time I ever notice it when backing is in really messy spring weather with road salt and rain and sleet. I can live with that for the benefits.

    dmg1029 Thanks this.

It is made by 3M and it cost me $120 for both windows installed and I had it professionally installed at a Stereo/ Window Tinting Store with a Lifetime Warranty. I had it done 4 years ago and it still looks new, not peeling or faded and keeps my cab alot cooler than clear glass. It was well worth the price.

393.60 (d) Coloring or tinting of windshields and windows. Coloring or tinting of windshields and the windows to the immediate right and left of the driver is allowed, provided the parallel luminous transmittance through the colored or tinted glazing is not less than 70 percent of the light at normal incidence in those portions of the windshield or windows which are marked as having a parallel luminous transmittance of not less than 70 percent. The transmittance restriction does not apply to other windows on the commercial motor vehicle.

    Glazing and window construction Intrepretation

Question 1: May windshields and side windows be tinted?

Guidance: Yes, as long as the light transmission is not restricted to less than 70 percent of normal (refer to the American Standards Association publication Z26.1-1966 and Z26.1a-1969).
