With all the anti idling laws, etc.. I am considering tinting my windows. I drive a pete 388 that has the extra insulation in it. When I am parked, or even driving with the sun beating down on the windows, it's still pretty warm. While parked I use those reflecting things you stick up in the windows. They work VERY well. SO, I am thinking about window tinting. I don't think I will do the front, but how about the sides? Anyone have any experience with this? I would have a shop do the work even though I did see the stuff at walmart for less then $20...

    Thanks.

Remember some states have laws as to how dark the tint can be. Last week I saw a State Trooper here in Florida stop a car for being too dark. Hire it done, trick is to keep it smooth.Pete's deserve the best.

It seems to me it'll make it a pain in the rear trying to back up in low light conditions with the windows tinted. Of course you can roll the windows down if need be, but that seems like it would be a pain.... just my .02

Now you have to have some sort of certification sticker on your windows saying they are of legal tint. The last carrier I worked for gave us some info from the fmcsa about it. Think they changed the law last year...

Be careful, Went into Florida years ago, pulled up to the scales with my windows down, Officer came out and asked my to roll my window up a little, then told me to pull around back. He did give me a choice to peel it off enough to keep from giving me a ticket. They were just a little too dark to be legal.

Good thought. When I have it 'professionally done', I was thinking to get a very light tint but something that will block most of the heat. I know there are some new technologies for window tinting material that block most of the suns rays. I will check with some shops when I can and report back. Perhaps someone had some experience?

I got pulled over in a company truck that had it's windows tinted- by a professional tinter. It was too dark.

DOT put this thing on the glass that measures the light passing thru the window- I didn't get a ticket, but yes they will pull you over for it!

From what I am reading, there are some extremely light looking tints that still block heat. I am hoping to find something that you can not even tell is on the window.

i use to have tinted windows it worked great for keeping the heat out but iowa gave me a $70 ticket for it your tint can only be 70/30 tint to be legal thats not dark enough to do any good. it worked really well at night for idiots that ran behind you with highbeams to i took it off because of the hassle from dot.

What did it run you to have them tinted? Do you remember what film was used?
