My God father had one on a lobster boat, always had problems, it was a bit faster than his brother in law's boat, exact same boat only difference the in law had a 3408 450 hp the 892 marine back then twin turbo was 550 hp but with a load of lobster traps the 92 could not plane the boat , the 3408 will do 17 ,18 knots while the 92 will do about 9 knots, then he upped the hp to around 700 and that was the kiss of death for that motor , oh and they are loud , straight wet exhaust , crazy loud.

I'm not real knowledge on motors, but way back in 1980 we got some new crateliner conventionals powered by the 8 v-92 with 9sd trannys and they didn't have any trouble driving right on by our small cam 400's and would run right along with our older 1693 425 horse cats, no problem.

As for low end torque they did about as well as the other trucks. The only drawback I can recall, the motors didn't last very long. Exploding turbos took most of them out at around 300, 000 miles or so.
