What about the jumpstart/charging posts behind the sleeper?
Some of the guys I talk to removed those since they had had issues with shorting and what not. Are they worth it to keep there and if not, are they all that hard to remove? -

I am having very intermittant starter issues. Turn the key...nothing.
Hit it again, usually it fires...sometimes needs a 3rd hit.
But you can go weeks w/o having any issues....

I puchased the solenoid next to the battery box too. Dealer told me she sells a lot of those. I dont think I see any reason for that charge post and its one more point of failure or corroision. I might have to SawZall the post..the bolts and stuff appear to be really rusted. Heck, the charging post itself is total rust and all of the connections are nice and green. -
Before I would start removing wires, wrap a piece of gray tape on each battery cable/wire, get a permanent marker, assign a number, and voltage orientation ( i.e. #1 positive), then take pictures, definitely draw a diagram, take more pictures and find an identical model truck to park near by at re-assemble time.
Did not do this for the linkage bushing and wiper motor replacement for an earlier (1996) W9. Sold that truck about a year later, never did get the wipers corrected, close, but not a 100%. -

lol
its your tumbler
mine does it all the time, as do most paccar
clean, replace and coat your terminals..........replace the tumbler if you really want to -
Electrical problems need at least two days of troubleshooting before correct answer is allowed!TGUNKEL Thanks this. -
I will replace the starter solenoid 1st and then go from there. It doesnt act up enough to troubleshoot...yet...

The easy way to troubleshoot the solenoid in the battery box is to hold the key down when it doesn't start and kick the box. Typically it will start right up if it's the solenoid. Mine does the same thing rarely in the summer. Maybe 5 times all summer. In the winter, it does it almost any time its below about 35f and the truck has been off for more than a couple minutes. Needless to say, I carry a new solenoid with me, it's just not annoying enough to replace it yet.
