Super-Single psi

    You guys that are running super-singles, what pressures are you running them at? I just got switched into a truck that is running them and they have some bad wear on the shoulders, I've been told anywhere from 100 to 115 psi. Any suggestions? Thnx in advance.

    look on the side wall of the tire, any tire that's what you should put in it.

    If you want to get technical, look on the door jamb, but that doesn't count if your truck came with a different setup from the factory............

    I used to run 120...105 in my steer tires.

    110 psi minimum, no more than 125 psi max

    I ran bulk tankers and hopper bottoms with Michelin X-One super singles for a couple years.

    Just remember if one is below 70 psi, DO NOT drive on it. Even short distances at low speeds will cause the tire to blow prematurely. Don't ask me how I know. :biggrin_25515:

    I run about 115 psi... every time I get the truck back to the shop they (mechanics) lower it back down to 100 psi. As soon as I get back in the truck I raise it back up to 115 psi. I feel I get slightly better fuel economy at 115 but the real reason I do it is to help avoid a blow out. Mechanics claim the centers wear out to fast (uneven tread ware) above 100 psi.

    Yeah the treadwear is what I'm working with, like I said, the outer edges are worn real bad, but the tread itself is still in good shape, my thoughts are they've been run too low, I adjusted psi to 115 yesterday in hopes that will make a positive difference. Company I work for is small and he only has two trucks with these tires on them so is a learning experience for all of us, just trying to get the most mileage out of them that we can. Thanks for the responses so far.

    Wide base super singles are the opposite of normal tires. The more pressure in duals will wear out the centers, the more pressure in X-Ones wear out the shoulders. This is because the belts in the center a wide base tire are stronger than normal so the tread stays flat, and doesn't balloon out. We were wearing out the centers so we kept lowering the pressure which made it worse. I think we run 110-120 but I can't remember because they are used with central tire inflation so it's been a while since they've been set.
