tach stopped working

I have a 430 detroit and the tach stopped working. I changed the crank position sensor but it still won't work. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

if its mechanical most likely inner spring broke loose.if its electronic it shorted out best thing to replace it with used unit from E-Bay like I did.My tach shorted out.

Thanks. Mine is electronic I will try that, someone also just told me that it could be the cam sensor.
