An L10 is a very forgiving motor, wideish powerband and really good on fuel. I run one in my '91 T-600 with a 9 speed on the 40' timpte hopper, rarely pull in legal, and never had problems with it. It isn't a powerhouse, but it's a good, reliable, light old motor. My Daycab T-6 with that L10 and the timpte only weigh in at about 23k tare. Not bad, considering my other T-6 daycab with the 3406B and another 40' Timpte tares out at about 28500. Does this freightshaker have a jake? Mine doesn't and that's the only thing I wish it had. (and a 13 speed, would help you get up to speed a lil faster)
heyns57 Thanks this. -
Make sure you have the higher HP motor, because they had different cooling setups between the two.
my first truck had an L-10 in it.. apart from being gutless, it was actually a good motor.. get one and put some fuel to it and you would have a nice light weight hauler. if you have big grades and/or large loads, its not for you.
C-12 or C-15 kitty is the way to fly. -

I'll go through most of the wheat harvest (2500 acres) on one 150 gallon tank of fuel, and that's with alot of idling and 10-20 mile runs to the grain elevator. Mine's the 300 that I had a little fuel put to her and she's running about ~335. Loves to puff the black smoke, but those extra 35 horses made a pretty good difference. Economy went down, of course, but it's still much better than my 3406B. I'd say I get about 7 MPG or so, maybe a little better.
I pull in on the scales at the local elevators most of the time at about 86500, but with that timpte and heavy wheat, I've rolled in at over 100k, and the old L10 pulled it. It's not a powerhouse, like I said, but it's a pretty forgiving motor that doesn't mind being lugged a little.
Like Donk said, it's a very good motor that doesn't have much power.
Unlike what Powder Joints said, it's not a boat anchor...but you would be spending most of your time in the right lane. -
right lane is ok. 55 to 65 is ok by me.. 7mpg sounds good.. what's the most hp you can turn them up without burnning them up?

Our race mechanics made a mistake and I ran 13 laps without any water in it, it cracked a block from 3 places but didn't score a liner or burn head gasket. They are tough engines! -
wow but i am talking about everyday uses and wanting to get as many miles out of it as possible. how many miles have you guys seen on they's motors?
