same thing here. yesterday i cleaned all the connectors on the alternator with a wire brush. unit hasn't failed yet... also, the engine itself seems to run better. it doesn't bog down when the condenser first kicks on in a.c. mode...

it has to be changed with a computer hookup by the dealership. Why would you want to lower to turn on voltage? The lower the voltage falls b4 it comes on, the harder it is on the batteries life cycle, and it is harder on the already weak unit's alternator to build that charge back up.

I know this is an old thread, but hoping not a dead one. I have a tripac on my truck and can't get it to run. Goes through the alarm cycle then turns over for a split second or I hear a clicking noise. Then the breaker goes off. Sometimes I get the ENG code, and sometimes I get a 6A3 code. The 3 actually looks like an upside down F. Can anyone help me out? Oh checked all cables and grounds, they appear to be tight and connected.

If its not turning over, you have, a fuse blown in the control box, a fuel pump not kicking in or a starter going bad. Also i think you are referring to a alt code, as i have never seen a 6a3 before. Alt will be alt bad, wiring at the back of alt broke, or a ground on the unit from block to dist block/alt. Hope this helps.

If you are getting the ENG code it may be oil related. I'm assuming you have checked it and the filter, but you may want to find the oil sensor to be sure its wires are OK.

Hi everybody, hoping this thread is still alive. I have a 4 year old tripac, bought it used and had it installed by the original dealer s the guy I bought it from.....been running fine until a fuel pump went bad....OK, had that done and a pm service and all was good until a month or so ago I started getting an alt alarm code....checked it out, the orignal 65 amp alt looked pretty bad so I ordered an aftermarket 120 amp direct replacement alt and installed it....now I have a wire I'm not sure what it is but I don't remember taking it off....it is the right hand wire coming from the 2 wire plug on the back of the alt. The lug sixe fits the B+ post where the 2 heavy cables go but when I connect this wire the unit does not act right.....the starting alarm constantly is on and then it seems as a relay kicks but nothing happens then it will repeat this cycle, it will start eventually and run for maybe 30 minutes and shut off, but the start alarm stays on...I don't remember this wire being attached to that post as I taped the ends of everything I removed and when I put the new alt on I saw it hanging there and figured I forgot to tape it so I put it on the post the lug would fit......so now I removed it left it off, now the unit acts properly, the start alarm comes on, turns off then it starts up just like it should but now its back to shutting down after a few minutes and displaying an alt alarm code again.....can't find any wiring diagrams online, am bidding on a couple on ebay,......does anybody know what that wire is and where it is supposed to go....it is the right hand wire as you look at top of the black 2 wire plug that snaps into the back of the alternator, so basically I am back to where I started with a new 120 amp alt that I sincerely doubt is bad because when the unit was running with that wire hooked up you could tell it was charging fine because the cabin lights would brighten up like when the main motor is running. I'm thinking it is some kind of voltage sensing wire or something but I don't think it belongs on that B+ post with the heavy cables.........:biggrin_2557:

    Thanks in advance!!
