    You running the spinner II?

Keep in mind you saved alot of money on reusing the head and injectors.

No bypass filter at all... but I DO have a Filtakleen bypass filter that I gave to my son but he never used it. I'll be putting that on the engine soon... and switching to AMSOIL and going 100K between changes.

The head rebuild, with the new parts, was only $1050.00... a CAT reman was about $2400.00.

the injectors looked really good... they have at least 700K on them and maybe more. They are CAT remans.

$13,700.00 to inframe my C15 MBN, little over two years and about 240K back.
New BW turbo, head and injectors checked, and reused (bad idea, IMHO, but this was due to mis communication between myself, and shop owner.) Otherwise, normal inframe done at independent shop owned by ex- Cat tech.

Cat inframed my 3406E in 2004 for just a few dollars more; in addition to reman head, injectors, and turbo cartridge, they also put a kit in my Horton fan clutch.

Looks really good. When it comes time for mine, I plan on using an independent shop too-he's too far away for me to take the truck to him for normal stuff, but he has a pretty incredible reputation among the coal and log haulers in eastern KY and upper east TN as being the best Cat man around. He charges $1700 labor for an inframe on an E model in a long hood truck, slightly more on an aero. As hard as those guys (the coal haulers especially) run their trucks, if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me. I think having everything done by one guy that knows what he's doing and does it right the first time, but with no warranty, will give me more peace of mind than getting it built from a Cat dealer where 13 different guys work on it, and having a warranty. (That was an awkward sentence, I hope it made sense). In my mind, a warranty that has to be used is pretty worthless.

$1700 for a full inframe? An inframe usually takes round 40 hours done properly plus counter bores and extras. That would be 42.50 an hour. I charge $3200 to start plus counter bores and extras. I wonder how that guy is keeping his lights on and paying his expences charging that hourly rate? Not bad mouthing him, all the power to him if he can make a living at the rate.

That's just what he charges if nothing special is required, and the only parts he keeps on hand are various liner shims, which he has made locally. You also have to run the parts up there yourself, so it's kind of an unusual setup. He just has a small shop way back in the woods-you have to drop your trailer at the turnoff to his road and bobtail to his house/shop.

I couldn't believe it was that low either, I'd heard about this guy for years, and had never really heard about his prices. I took a buddy of mine up there to pick his truck up after getting a bearing kit put in his transmission (which was $1000 plus parts) and asked him about what he got for various services-so of course that $1700 is the bare minimum. I would guess the average income in his area is under $20k a year, so he probably makes a pretty good living based on his cost of living.

Don't forget that if it is done at a dealership that Cat is giving away warranty. 2 or 3 years with unlimited mileage and a purchase of up to 4 year/ unlimited. That is huge.
