Mine 3406E just got finshed today... I will pick it up Tuesday.

So how much did your last in-frame overhaul cost? Cat, Cummins or Detroit.

After I get some feedback I will let you know how much this one ran... of course CAT parts are very expensive...

    Just curious...

mine was done aprox 4-5 months ago. 95' ser 60 det. $6800 plus tax.because of the low cost I did have other things done that was not included in the inframe cost, but the inframe was as stated. it was done at a local private shop in business for over 20 years.

Not really.... but it certainly wasn't the disaster a lot of guys would think it would be.

Cummins recently had a special on pre-emission ('03) ISX engines...$11,400 I believe (may have been $11,900?)... and I saw an ad from a Detroit engine shop that would do Series 60 12.7 for $10,900. I have seen Detroit in-frames advertised at a lower price a few years ago... not sure what changed.

Both of these offers were for cylinder packs, re-con head, rods, mains, oil pump and gaskets with labor as I recall. Lube oil, coolant, misc. parts and shop supplies were extra. They did not include a new water pump or turbo.

Everyone who has had to pay for an in-frame knows that all the little stuff really adds up... nuts, bolts, clamps, misc. gaskets, etc. A lot of these small items can be reused but sometimes it pays to install new to avert a future repair bill down the road. And shop rates of $90.00 per hour and higher sure can make it expensive.

I did what they call a poor mans overhaul for right around 3k, in my garage.

Almost forgot.... 3406B motor. Cat parts are expensive, but the key is to call around to different dealers. I got my parts thru freightliner cheaper than I could at cat. The labor is where thry really hammer you!
