    Hi guys,

    I'm getting a 96 Volvo with a cat 3406.

Here's the deal, the door tag says 375hp is what its rated right now.

The valve cover sticker says 410hp advertised, right beside that it also says Max hp 550

My question is, how far can I turn this engine up, and what do I need to do so.

I plan on doing the boost and fuel temp mod as soon as I get a chance. Making the wires myself from radio shack.

I want to get the injector trim codes put in it to turn it up as much as I can, or buy a used ECM that has them in it.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks,

    Greg

You'll need the complete engine serial number listed on the tag at the valve cover. It should start with 5EK or possibly 6TS depending on when it was built. This engine should have started life as a 410 Hp raitng. The problem with this is the lower hp rating CAT's with these serial numbers are limited to how much you can do with them, because of the internal parts to build them.

    I'll send you a PM

    gregrob Thanks this.

I would also like to turn up a 3406E. Could Mr. Haney send me a PM as well?
    Thanks,
    Craig

I'm hoping Mr. Haney can provide some insight. I recently purchased a 1999 Peterbilt 379EXH with a blown 3406E (Serial # 2WS / 70 Pin). Is this engine interchangeable with an early model C15 ? Would it require any major wiring or would it basically be plug and play? Are there any serial #'s I should look for in the early model C15.

    Regards,
    Mike

A c15 will hook right up to your wiring you may have to change some parameters in the ecm for tach cal man fan overide switch and the such.I would look for a 6nz 455 or above The 435 and lower require alot of hard part changes to get higher power levels out of them.

A 2WS, 6NZ, 7CZ, 1MM should all be a straight swap if you get the ecms with them.

    It's a plug and play with the C-15/6NZ, C-16/7CZ, 3406E/1MM, 3406E/2WS and the famous bridge C-15/MBN
