Sounds like the driver crying to me about his Volvo and going broke, getting screwed by Volvo shops, while we were waiting for our bills. But he was from Texas.
The only thing I could say to him is "the more you talk about your Volvo, the more I love my truck!"
I know it doesn't help, but what were you thinking when you bought a Volvo?
If a used fleet truck isn't good enough for the original owner's fleet, why should it be good for you?
Moral of my post: don't buy used fleet crap!

My MPG dropped to 4.8 on my 2006 Volvo 670. On a cold morning (29 degrees) I noticed that while I was driving through a dirt lot my radiator fan was blowing dust over the engine and on to the windshield. Sure enough I popped the hood and my fan was stuck in the on position, burning all my fuel. I ordered a fan sensor which took 2 days to ship in. While waiting on the part, I pushed the air supply line on the fan into the fan clutch and VOILA ! the fan cut off, truck temp rose back to normal and MPG went back to high 6's. FREE FIX!
Fan sensor is still on the shelf at the Volvo dealer. LOL! -
Poor fuel mileage 2006 Volvo 670 (check radiator fan)

Turn key to accessory (engine not running) and listen for air leak near fan clutch. If air is leaking use a screw driver to push brass fitting in to release fan air supply hose. Use 7/16 inch wrench to remove quick release brass fitting. OEM fitting is of poor quality and if it was like mine it was very loose with a broken inner stem. I bought a new valve at the closest shop which was a KW dealer for $5.
Fuel mileage immediately jumped to 7.8 mpg bobtail. Previous mileage varied from 4.2 to 6.6HopeOverMope and FAP Thank this. -
Does anybody know if it is possible for the EPG not to retract the plunger all the way back when not in use. My exhaust brake still works BUT it seams like I have a potato stuck in my behind (exhaust) all the time

That is why I'm deleting the EPG all together with a straight piece of exhausted pipe and plugging the air line. This way the solenoid is still hooked up and not throwing codes.

engine brake is lowd w/o EPG, but it is not a problem)

Yeah I bet it increases the sound quite a bit. I too have driven myself crazy with erratic fuel economy but never better 5.8 average in a 350 mile reset run thru Kansas. I found on my 800k ved 12 that the muffler was plugged up full of rusty metal, the egr's where bad, and after reading some great posts on this forum along with the only good advice from the service manger from my local Volvo dealer is what lead me to the epg. I replaced the muffler with straight pipe. Strangely enough it wasn't breathing any more than it did with the muffler on it . The service manager told me to unplug the epg and then see how much power it would make. I did and it was amazing you could hear exhaust coming from the pipe and it brought back some power. However I think in order to make a good pulling tractor I will need to remove the epg as I mentioned and plug off the egr's to get all the power the truck can make.

All arrow dealers are thiefs
My 2006 Volvo same specs has 1.398 million original miles on it never opened up yet.. But it's a one owner truck o/o specd and maintained. So sometime the bad apple lands close to the tree and gets picked up by someone like yourself.
My 2008 d13 Volvo bought from arrow blew up twice and first week from arrow injector cups had to be replaced lol. Stay away from them
