Hello , my name is Narcis , i am from Quebec,Ca and i will share with you my story . I just bought a 2006 400.000miles Volvo 670 with Volvo 465Hp Ved12 engine around 2 months ago from ARROW MISSISSAUGA, Ontario .
First thing i noticed was the poor fuel consumption [ 4.5-5.2 mpg] in my first week of driving with 25.000 lbs on trailer which is kinda bad since before i drove the same volvo 2005/ved 12 before geared the same as driver and averaged around 6.8-7.2mpg .
After 300 miles in my first trip i got an injector code , truck stopped and was towed to volvo expressway \ontario and they changed an injector , the Engine ECU (truck did not start after injector was changed) and one Egr valve as well ,warranty pay some 6000$ and i pay 1000$ in towing and taxes , everything looked ok in the next 500 miles and after this the same egr valve start a code , i went to Volvo Calgary,AB where they changed again the same egr valve and after i complained about extremely poor mpg they did a cylinder cut off test (which was ok) and air pressure test (from turbo : 500$ total) and they told me that the air to air cooler needs to be replaced because it has a hole on it and this is the cause of my poor mpg.
Went to Volvo montreal 3 days after and i replaced the air-to-air cooler for some 3500$ out off my pocket , next trip fuel economy was the same , went back to volvo montreal , they told me to adjust valves and test egr cooler for some 800$ ,did this ,... next trip same mpg so i went back to volvo montreal , they did a mechanic compression test twice who ended up to be perfect {3% diff between cylinders} ,they also check the turbo front and back and they told me that they found the problem " turbo wastegate not working properly " they changed the wastegate and the sensor and with tests and everything it cost 3800$ again from my pocket since nothing was covered by warranty , of course i still have the same mpg , at this point they suggested me to change the injectors for some 6000$ .
I have no idea what to do anymore , in 20.000 miles it barely took 1 gallon of oil so i did oil analysis but everything is ok , no colant or fuel in oil and wear is perfect. I have no codes no smoke or something else turbo push 0-35 psi , power look ok compared to the 2005 volvo i drove before maybe just a bit weaker.

If somebody have any ideas please tell me .
Thx for your time and help .

I calculate my mileage usually with 160 us gal. , i fill tanks and i calculate how much miles i can do , ...btw the computer show me the same thing , i average 800 - 870 miles with 160us gal.
Arrow Mississauga pay for the ECU and gave me 900$ for the Air-To-Air that's it .
The vendor "Jerry" told me that is my truck now and they don't care anymore. Really bad sales practice since the truck had all these problems when was bought from them . :biggrin_25511:

I was going to say... how fast are you driving?, but then realized you mentioned Canada. So I guess 65mph goverened.

Check you tire pressures, truck and trailer.

We had one customer that had a C15 and never got more than low 4's. Same thing, throw a bunch of parts at it, tune ups, reflashes, nothing worked. Found out his idle time was about 35%. That is why his fuel mileage was poor. The engine actually got in the upper 6's.

As I've understood it is D12D engine! we have 150 trucks with D12D in our fleet. Good engine, but too sufisticated and not so easy to repare.

Can you find EPG (EXHAUST PRESSURE GOVERNOR - big valve on turbine)? Is the air controll line good? Is EPG solenoid good? EPG is used for regulating boost pressure and may be filled with soot, overheated....

Previous owner ran truck on poor fuel, overladen, may be overheated, he used truck with six faulty injectors and seems to be EPG stuck in wrong position! May be he rev up engine with parking brake applied... and now you have too many exaust related problems. So start with EPG!

Thx for reply ,I let the engine 5 minn to cool down after use and then i shut down , my idle time is maybe 3% with all this , i sleep using an espar heater which takes maybe 1 gallon of diesel in 12-16 hours on my calculations .
