Got a C13 with a slight miss to it, ran an automated cylinder cutout test with Cat ET and this is what i got

    Fuel Position mm
    #1....... 2.25......................... OK
#2....... 2.04......................... Questionable (thats exactly what it says)
    #3....... 2.20......................... OK
    #4....... 2.19......................... OK
    #5....... 2.21......................... OK

Ran test at operating temp, It tells me to check the injector trim number and make sure its correct which it is. Has never had one changed before. What are the possibilties here? Injector? Valve or injector adjustments? Can somone explain to me how the fuel postion works? thanks

it measures the fuel position before it cuts any out, so you are assuming that all 6 are working. as it starts to cut them out you should see the fuel go up, as it takes more fuel to keep the rpm the same with 1 less cylinder firing. when you have 1 where the fuel doesnt go up, or where it is lower than the others, like in your example, it means that cylinder was never contributing.

it looks to me like you should replaced that injector. or if you can do the labor yourself, pull 2 injectors and swap them and do another test. if the questionable one moves on the test you know its an injector problem. if it stays in the same cylinder you know the injector is ok. but if you have to pay for that labor it may be easier just to put a new one in.

you could also have a problem with the valve actuator on the front 2. i had one at work once that was skipping and smoking slightly, i ran all the tests, then i swapped the front 2 vva's and ran another test, and the problem switch with the vva. turns out it was stuck on slightly and was holding the exhaust valve open, letting the fuel dump out. replaced it and ran the test again, everything checked out.

like i said, its nice if you can do the labor yourself, you can save some money that way.
