I would ask for and demand to see receipts of any work that was done and have a certified mechanic look at it.

Not in the least unless warning signs are there. Like smoking, blow-by,noise in engine, oil in water, etc. Consider getting an oil analysis. Check batteries. Also , who did O/H ? Dealer, shop, or shadetree ? Ask for papers on engine work. If no problems found, get it.

Another thing I would ask, did it have a wet kit, maybe it was a local truck that ran some kind of pump trailer. Not a bunch of miles, but a bucket load of hours.
-
Pay to have it put on a dyno. That right there can tell ya a whole bunch of what you're wanting to know.
-
the guy has papers with the o/h ran mostly local work checked the shop floor for any kinds of oil leaks as well as under the truck, the guy is retiring and has taken great care of the truck

Sounds like he's already retired if he only put on 25k miles in 2 years.
