I have recently decided to go back over the road. I worked local job for last 9 years. I was given a 2009 Prostar from the company I drive for.

The question I need answered is: How do you keep the truck idling in cold or hot weather to compensate for conditions? I know in the older trucks, there was what was called optimized idle. What is it called in this Prostar and how do you get it to operate.

OI - is DetroitDiesel thing, Cummins make ICON...

what engine do you have? They offer Cat, Cummins and Maxxforce...

what do they offer to self starting... I do not know, I saw ProStar twice... with ISX engine and no ICON.

Turn cruise on and hit either set or resume button to increase rpms. Some companies have idle shutdown programmed in to save fuel, so you might be SOL.

Can you pull a fuse for the idle shutdown?

I found out that when the Idle Shutdown Light comes on, all you have to do is Rev the engine up within 10 seconds and it will eliminate the Idle Shutdown and then it runs as long as you need it to. The only problem with this compare to the old Optimized Idle is fuel comsumption, becasue it does not shutdown and restart like Optimized Idle. Oh well, the things they do to make you spend more money.

It depends which engine you have. Maxxforce engines, reving the engine only cancels the 5 min timer and restarts it. Cummins, depends how it is programmed. There is no fuse to pull, this is all in engine programming.
