as i recall the first fuel trouble we had was the check ball in there getting galled. Can't remember if that was before or after the rail pump was replaced

    Update:

Well driving the truck to dealer and shutting it off, I tried to start her up again and no luck. As I was leaving the office I noticed fuel dripping underneath, this was a good sign.

The truck went in late afternoon and by 6:00pm they informed me that the fuel pump was bad. I asked him was he talking about the primer pump and he said yes. However he was in a rush so I can't really don't know if he heard my question clearly.

Good for you! At least all this happened at the shop and they didn't have to spend hours ($$$) trying to hunt down the problem.

    Another Update:

They can't get parts in because of the USA Thanks giving holiday. The other issue being is that a new part was installed March 2010 which means it's under warranty.

Dealer I brought the truck to is an authorized Cummins Dealer. However their problem is that they might not be authorized on my ISX engine. WTF?

I asked them yesterday to make sure that they can cover this under warranty, they told me "Yes". I also explained to them if not I will drive the truck to the dealer that replaced the fule pump, that's of course if I can make it. This way it does not cost me anything.

Now I'm being told that I might have to pay for it and send Cummins the bill. I also asked them if they can install my old pump back into the truck. They told me that if they do I have to pay for labour.

I'm glad that I bought a genuine Cummins part and had it installed by a Cummins authorized dealer. I'm very happy that I took my truck to an authorized dealer to replace the pump under warranty however I might have to pay for everything. They keep telling you to buy genuine Cummins, Mercedes, Volvo, Detroit etc parts for better service. I can see that now.

I am having about the same problem. I don't have any problem starting but it runs rough and stays running rough though out the day. I have checked the fuel lines and no leaks. I have run lucas though the system and no change. The thing that is weird is that I still have pretty good power but it is not what it used to be. I just had the overhead ran about 6 months ago. So I don't think it is and injector! I just can't figure it out....

I spent the entire day looking for a leak and there was none. If it is before the fuel pumps you will not see a leak. It will just suck air through the crack or it might look a little bit darker in colour where the crack is.

You need to do a pressure test between your prime/lift pump and gas tank.

Mine was the prime/lift pump it had a pin hole on the bottom just enough to suck in air after the engine was shut off. As the day went on the hole got bigger and it got to the point where she leaked when shut off.

Curious.... about how much did your overhead run? Did you have it done at a dealer or ?

    Thanks!

If I were you i would call cummins, if you have a copy of the invoice for the pump replacement and its under a year then any cummins repair shop should honor that with no problems.

Mine got gradually harder to start with longer crank times, and eventually I saw the drips from the electric lift pump which was replaced and cured the problem, but I was well out of warranty.
