This is the information I received from my salesman pertaining to 2014 engines.
"Just as a heads up, I wanted to pass on the following information about diesel emission standards that will go into place as of January 2014. In order to meet these standards, the engine manufacturers have been compelled to agree on the following:
NEW EMISSIONS REGULATIONS EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2014.
MANDATED: Vehicle speed limit can be NO FASTER than 64.5 MPH.
MANDATED: Idle shut down after 5 minutes. No exceptions. Currently not applicable to day cabs.
MANDATED: Low rolling resistance tires. Must be certified by the factory and con ONLY be replaced with approved certified low rolling resistance tires.
MANDATED: Factory setting must be password protected and tamper proof.
MANDATED: All factory restrictions must remain in effect for 1,259,000 miles.
MANDATED: Penalties for Manufacturer non-compliance: $37,500 per truck AND must retrofit vehicles in non-compliance. Penalties for individual non compliance have not been announced."

Sounds very onerous what they are laying down on manufactureres & operators alike. The dreaded Road Speed Limiter is finally arriving...in less than 12 months. One would wonder where they came up with figures like 64.5 & 1,259,000. I wonder how they expect an electronic control system of a truck to be 'tamper proof' when hackers can hack into the Pentagon if they want to?
Good luck in your new 5 trucks. Great to see better fuel economy, good performance, reliability and good driver acceptance go hand in hand. -
I'm not sure the fat lady is singing yet. 140k is just broken in, we shall see
I do wish you luck with them. -
Proud Trucker I can't believe you do not run APU on your trucks. I have a Tripak that save me over 4000 a year in fuel. That is me being out 3 to 4 nights a week. Plus the extra wear on the main engine. In two years it has pay for itself and is making me money now. The tripac uses the espar heater. After the first year of doing my taxes (with APU) figuring fuel mileage cost I was blown away to see I ran more miles on a 1000 gallons less fuel. Then the same thing this year over a thousand gallon less again. I have owned this truck for five years the apu has been on the last 3 year will never own another truck without it.

I wonder if this will apply to gliders also or just the 2014 engines... -
I am reviewing APU's now terryt. The immediate needs have overshadowed the wants lately. If I was a still an O/O I would have had one already but managing cash flow in a small operation is critical. I can see the future savings and want to equip the fleet as soon as possible.

i guess you should expect this engine in the states soonking Q Thanks this. -
I love technology BUT...
I can just see my own work shop being able to do less and less.
That would not be as bad if the OME was competent but the guys we have to rely on just take your truck for days and throw expensive parts at the problem.
Often sending your truck back with the same issues.
Did you see the part where it said the perfect mix of exhaust gasses and fresh air for the intake.
I guess they don't mean zero exhaust gasses. -
Daf does do this.
The compagny i was with before i was an O/O had an offical DAVIE unit.
You just have to have a big enough fleet to justify the investment. -
Davie is the worst around. I'm a computer nit wit and even I know that. Why doesn't paccar ?
