I'm evaluating the purchase of a new Kenworth with the Pacar MX engine. I can't find any internet articles on fuel performance. Of course fuel consumption is a realitive. Does anyone have any experience with this engine and have you seen increases in fuel mileage from other engines?

One thing I did find interesting in the literature about this engine is that they want you to do a valve train adjustment every 160,000 miles! I wonder what that will cost and work out to on a per mile basis?

in europe that engine is appeared in 2005 and it is one of the most economical engines on market special version 510 ( comparing to other trucks with similar Hp-they are mostly 16L)

version 560hp with 2800nm(2066lb-ft) is very rare and i heard that they had some problems

    also this engine is
famous for its big oil consumption

also my cousin had xf105 410 was first model of those and he had it
until 2 months and he had one outframe and one inframe ....also he bought now 2007 xf105 460 and he bought it with engine failure and that engine even before had engine overhaul and it is only 300 000km ......and now all six pistons and thimbles are changed ....also one man who work with him for one company have 2 xf105 460 2010 and already had some engine work

I hope that the daf/paccar corrected most problems with them but it is often smart to not buy some product just when it arrive on the market

Don't touch them with a barge pole, absolute crap! They will break you , had 2 older euro 3's, engine no1 clapped out at 230,000 kms ( yes kilometres not miles) no 2 540,000kms, I know a lot of guys that bought them, 600,000 kms seems to be the absolute limit to their lifespan and from what I hear the newer mx is even worse, terrible engine! Stick to cummins or whatever engine you know, fuel economy is pretty good but they will constantly break down , one things for sure , your tow truck will be kept busy and garage bills will make up for your fuel savings

Pretty good fuel milage alright.....for about 12 months if you're lucky.....Then your Paccar wonder engine will break you. You will need a full time mechanic and workshop on your payroll doing engine rebuilds to keep those piles of dung hauling freight for you. Take my advice...they will break you....run a mile.

We had another disillusioned owner operator through our workshop yesterday with a Paccar engine in a Daf.....it has him nearly broke....He said only for having a reliable Mercedes running alongside it,he would have been long time financially broke by his troublesome Daf

88200lbs -40t on worst bosnians roads 46L that is 5.1mpg

that include all hills on route including 1000m incline lot of serpentines

on medium hard croatian off highway roads with couple of hills and heavy highway 30L or 7.8mpg total 38L or 6.2mpg this include manual transmission and driving as fastest as it can

with 62000lbs on same route and 88200lbs in other direction on same route fuel economy was 7.2
