got volvo 2004, isx 450, 760,000 mi. My computer right now showes 241F oil temp, pulling on small hill with 35000 load, outside temp 58f, on flat i get 236f oil temp and antifrz around 190f, i also noticed oil leaking from where oil sensor screws into engine, maybe its bad oil temp sensor? i changed oil cooler last year. Also my engine shots down at 250F. Any thoughts on this issue???

Oil coolers actually have a thermostat in them. Sounds like yours is stuck closed.

A spun bearing or tight bearing side clearances will increase oil temps... I would get it checked out...

if they changed oil cooler but didnt change the t-stat in the cooler I would start there.

is this t-stat located inside oil cooler or somewhere on the side away from it, because i saw oil cooler it had these 2 small holes for antifreeze but it didn't look like there were a place for t-stat

I used to pull out this T-state and engine ran well w/o it!

the t-stat is in the very front of the cooler, mounted on the engine you will have to remove the acc. bracket to access it. there is a large plug in the end that will have to be removed with a 3/4" allen socket to access it and there is a snap ring that holds the t-stat in place.

when you pulled it out, have you noticed drop in oil temp?

well i think i managed to lower my oil temp, I was at speedco and changed oil and also main air filter (my filter was totally clogged with sand from summer "produce on dry fields"), so I changed oil, filter, and also i disconnected EGR since people were saying it lowers engine temp, + i want to save fuel. So far i drove just 20 mi and i like results, temp on flat used to be 230 now 219F. I hope it stays this way (its too early to say), ill drive from Kingman, AZ to LA, Cali, through those big hills and ill tell you tomorrow how my temp is. I hope its not T-stat. Wish me luck
