Hands down I would take the Detroit over the Volvo power. 46 diffs add only about 200 lbs. It's the housings that are heavier.

    Go with the 06 Freightliner.

Detroit Diesel's are alot easier to work on, and parts are everywhere.

Very high rear end ratio! Look for something around/under 3.70
And Freight shaker for sure! I have a columbia 14l/470hp-13spd, couldnt be happier :)

You dont need or want the 46K rears. They are to heavy and have no benifit on a OTR truck. They are for heavy hauling and off highway.
Freightliner has more dealerships and service centers than any other manufacturer. Easier to get parts and service. 500K is a lot of miles to start out with. Both will most likley need an overhaul with in 2 to 2.5 years if you run 125,000 miles a year. If they make it that long. 700,000 to 800,000 miles are where most engines need rebuilding. If you cant pay it off and save the better part of $20,000 for that rebuild I would find a truck with a lot less miles.

I was wondering about the ratio 3.9 but how much does fuel mileage is the difference 3.9 and other lower ratios. When compared.

and what trans and tire size is the freightliner, its about specing and driving right to have fuel mileage. most of the detroits like a lower rear end like a 3.90 or 3.70 with a 10 or 13 spd and 11r22.5 tires
