Abnormal tire wear....

bad bushings, loosen rear axe bearings, bent axe.. and aligment too! check for ballance and pressure!

My opinion is the tire wasn't round to start with (not many are) and once it started dipping it just kept getting worse. I've known many people to pull a steer tire for this and put it on the trailer and think it will straighten out, but it will only continue to follow the original dips and get worse and worse. When I buy tires if they seem to shake or jump, I have them checked for roundness and cut and trued up if need be, it breaks my heart to see all that rubber shaved and laying in the floor, but a true tire will run a lot longer than an out of round tire regardless of tread depth.

 

you may also see this kind of wear on one tire if you consistently back up from one direction (which I usually do instead of blind siding) which scuffs one tire more than the others. And as said before, once the irregular wear starts, it never gets better, only worse.

 

REDD, you'll get many answers about tire wear,and why, and how it happens. My exp with spread axles is the same as your pics. I had a spread doing the same and I put new bearings,bushing,shocks,tires, and had a alignment done. Then a few months later its doing the same thing. IMO its caused from turning tight~I don't think its a symptom of any thing, just a spread axle doing its deal.

 

You know you could be right because that would be the one taking the beating backing from the drivers side, and yes spreads are death on the forward axle without a dump valve. My earlier post is true in alot of cases and still worth remembering, but this time I think you could be right,and thanks sometimes my fingers start walking before brain is engaged.

 

My drive tires on Pete 379 doing the same.I think it has nothing to do spread axle.I am thinking like Puncher, that tires are not round and installed wrong.

 

I agree! I've never had tire wear like that on any of my spreads and I very rarely dump my back axle.

 

Probably bad shock and or low tire pressure will do that also
