newbie to the forum, been reading a lot of posts, but I just bought an 05 international 9400 I eagle with a 400 cummins ( retired walmart truck ) 670000 miles on it, drove it from Az to NY with no problems. had it home here for about a week now, and I'm seeing coolant leaking from under the front passenger side of the motor, seems to be coming from beneath ac compressor, or under that, what I think is either the water pump or the EGR cooler, not sure... still figuring out what and where all the components are.
but I'm reading a lot about leaking egr coolers on these motors and wondering if thats what I'm experiencing here.
it only leaks when the motor is cold, not a drop at operating temp...
any info on this would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks in advance

    Kevin, new O/O

Sounds like a bad seal. The EGR coolers are notorious for leaking eventually. I know Cummins moved the cooler and valve on the newer (mine is an '08) models so I cannot say for sure where yours is.

Can you take some pictures (wide of whole engine and narrower where the leak is) and post them up? I might be able to tell you what the leak is from if I can see it.

tried to attach images here, lets see if I did it right, bad pics but you might be able to get the idea, these are from the passenger side looking to the front of the turbo

Does not look to be the right area for the EGR cooler. I wonder if you have a cracked hose, or a bad gasket. A crack at one of the coolant hoses where the clamps are is not uncommon. Especially since everything is still painted Cummins red. The new hoses are not usually painted.

You can try some UV leak detector made for coolant. Just be aware that in sunlight or a source of UV light the red coolant will glow green. This seems to confuse dealership mechanics that don't understand that UV dye exists and the green is the dye reacting to light. The dye will help you locate the EXACT location or crack that the coolant is coming from. I used this method to determine a leaking seal on my '08. I had many an argument with techs who are supposed to know what they are doing trying to tell me that the only dye is made for fuel.

They make dye for AC systems too. They make a pump you can hook to the radiator cap opening to pressurize the system. The leak would be more evident then. Looks like it's coming from the area of the waterpump. Since temperature is involved, it sounds like a gasket. But it's usually the reverse, when it heats up it pressurizes and leaks. Then again the fan can be blowing it when it's running and you just don't notice it. It could be leaking by a hose clamp connection. Hoses tend to wear there first. Look real good, leaks usually leave a rust trail. You might need a small mirror to see good.

from what i can tell in the pics, that is where the water pump slides into the front of the block coolant passage, some clearer pics would help gretly, but that is what it looks like.

thanks for all the input, I believe it is from the water pump, looking at that third image with the arrow, you can see like a turbine shape to the back of the housing, not actually a turbine, but just looks like that type of shape... the leak is coming from the outer part of that housing, looks like it may be an O ring about 5 inches in dia. sealing that up...
    sound about right?

it doesn't leak at all when up to temp, which would lead me to believe it's the water pump, as I have a lot of experience with cars and changing a lot of water pumps over the years, but this is my first owned truck and I'm just not that sure of the parts.
I am able to get under there and see where the leak is coming from as described in my last post...

wondering if I can just take that thing off and take it to either be rebuilt or if I would just need to replace the gaskets or O rings...?
