    n14 check valve?

    Is the check valve in the fuel line suppose to be coming out of the block in front of the ecm on a n14? It would be the line coming out of the block going to the filter head? If so I took my line off and no fuel in it. took fitting out of block/ecm cooling plate and no check ball/valve. Could this be causing hard starts?

    Yes. An N14 requires requires 22 PSI fuel pressure to start. I'm surprised the checvk valve isn't there. It looks like a single piece only but it does come apart.

    On my N14's, I kepr getting crap from the tanks that would hold them open. I got Kenworth to install a Racor Filter with heat, glass sediment bowl and Primer pump on the frame so that the fuel had to go throught it BEFORE going to the check valve.

    I recall telling Cummins engineers at a trade show that they must have graduated in the bottom 50% of their class to install the filter AFTER the fuel goes thru the check valve.


    If the valve is really missing in yours, they're not that expensive to buy.

    The Racor filter had cost me about $220.00.

    If you have any brass fittings on there now, take them with you.

    I think I am having the same problem my last truck would start as soon as I would push the button, this one cranks for about 5-6 seconds if I'm lucky. could you please post a pic so I can locate it? this is my first electronic engine thank you

    Can't find a pic but start where the fuel line goes into the fuel filter, now follow that line straight up towards the top until you see some fittings and the line now goes straight back. That junction of fittings where the live goes towards the rear is the check valve.

    Well got the check valve replaced and still hard to start. anymore ideas?

    Fuel pump sucking air from a pin hole in one of the suction fuel lines. Fuel pump gear teeth are worn to the point where now it has a hard time building up fuel pressure.

    Do you have a fuel pressure guage in the dash??? If so, check that the line from the pump to the guage is tight at both ends. I had one where the line was only finger tight at the guage.
