Had the pleasure of driving a 500 for a short time. It was a very powerful motor. I later owned a truck with a KTA525 and i doubt it would outpull that Mack. Dont know what the Mack ever had done to it, but it sure could make alot of smoke...

I spent the lions share of my seat time following that little dog around in Mack Trucks, 2 years in an F-700 "300 Maxidyne" with a 5 speed. And the other, a Superliner with a flat top sleeper again with a 350hp. Mack which I literally lived in for three years.
Those many miles endeared those old Macks to me. I can't begin to tell you how many times I would talk to that Dog on the hood as if he were real... And the times and long miles when he was my only company and he indeed became real. Call me nuts but if I had the $$$ I'd find an old Superliner, outfit it with a modern Mack powertrain and all the comforts of todays equipment, put a condo on it and tour the United States.... You might not want to outfit it with a modern Mack (Volvo) driveline. The REAL Mack engines are gone because of the emissions standards. What you get in a Mack truck is a Volvo engine with Mack labeling. I had to rent a truck last spring when my non-Mack truck had a transmission problem....I was given a 2003 CH (300hp 9spd) all Mack day cab & it couldn't get out of it's own way loaded or empty. When I stepped on the throttle, the turbo woud whine, but the back pressure was even louder & it took forever to get going. When I looked under the hood I saw a Volvo motor with Mack logos on it. When I got to the shop wher I had my other truck repaired I mentioned the rental truck to the manager there (Gabrielli Mack) & he told me the newer Macks were junk & to not buy anything newer than an E-7. He also told me that the newer trucks were in the shop almost as much as they were on the road, mostly because of problems with the emissions systems. -
I had thought that the MP10 Engine family was an in house "Mack" design??? But what the heck.. If I hit the powerball I'd have enough $$$ to restore an old E-9 V8 and "boost" it to 500+ HP. Fuel Mileage you say ?? Hey With a Lottery Win WHO CARES -

I had the 500hp cabover for a while and there are still lots of tidy Ultraliners working with 500,525,575 and 610hp.
High intakes are a Australian design to cope with dust in the outback and we have adopted the idea,I have found my intake temps are cooler than under the hood type and filters stay cleaner longer.
As far as a blind spot,dont seem to be to bad and it also keeps the bugs from flying in your window when its down. -

A friend of mine has an odd Superliner by my estimation. It has a 3406 cat engine and a fuller tranny. He claims that it started its life as a display truck from the Mats many years ago.
