I just bought this truck a 2001 KW T800 with a ISX 475 and it is idling at 800 rpm. I think it is to high, I would like to set the idle with the cruise if I need to bump it up. What is the normal idle on this motor? Is 650 to low? I am going to run it by a dealer next week and have them set it.
Pre-EGR Cummins w/ high idle.

did you get a manual for the engine with the truck? If so it should say in there. On my N14 I was told to set the low idle around 650-700rpm. In the manual it says I need at least 10psi at low idle which is around 650 on my truck.

Try with the cruise off and bumping the set/resume down.

It worked in the 2000 Columbia ISX I drove to set the idle up or down with the toggle and the cruise control off. It may be the way it's set up in the Kenworth or it may be a problem with the motor or switch.
The manual said to idle it at 800 RPM as it was fast enough to be efficient and not damage the engine and slow enough to not use as much fuel. Fuel use in GPH is about half at 800 versus 1100 according to the manual.
The FL/ISX could be set to idle from just above 500 RPM to full governed speed just by bumping the toggle up or down.Big John Thanks this. -
usally set between 700rpm and 900rpm to reduce chance of damage to bearings, etc
