    Freightliner or Peterbilt.

I need some better fuel milage. I am buying a newer truck and trying to decide between a Freightliner Cascadia Detroit 13 sp and a Peterbilt paccar 13 sp. Any suggestions.

that Paccar engine is gonna be a fuel guzzler......a friend of mine has one in a new 660.....his best mileage was a run to Florida at 6.1.....other than that he's getting 5's....he's had it in KW to get flashed already too.......he'd rather have the cat in his old w9...he consistently got 6.6 with it

You can not base the purchase of a TRUCK based on the My neighbours wifes sisters babysitters 3rd cousin knows a guy that !

Go ask a few drivers that drive the trucks your thinking about , FREIGHTLINERS got a website that tracks 4 CASCADIAS on a daily basis
    http://sliceoftruckerlife.com/wherearetheynow.php , good info there.

PRIME has some guys posting on here getting decent fuel mileage on CASCADIAS.

Very well said--so here is what I can tell you--There is a small company here in eastern pa--I am VERY familiar with--always ran big hoods big power etc--after last fuel crunch(around 0they started experimenting a little--got a couple of(not sure model numbers) short hood petes(like wallyworld) and the Pete Football helmet(like the kw t200)--set them up w/single tire and whole deal--all still had CATS like rest of fleet-fuel mileage up in the mid 6(big improvement on fleet average--from about 5.4)Starting 2009--Freightliner rep came in--made a deal for 3 Cascadia's--all decked out(not stripped)also single tires etc--DDEC 60's(around 450hp?) 13spd--3:35 rears--Now they pull HEAVY--stainless reefers--avg of the 3(now around 150,000 miles) 7.4--Lots of variables--obviously. Also older seasoned drivers in each--none were too happy to get out of 379's--but all understand--that today more than ever FUEL MILEAGE is the name of the game.
Now I'm sure you can find other bigger fleets running a mix of the trucks you are considering and get some more solid info--But thought I would throw this out--since I know the owners and all three of the guys driving them pretty well.
    Just my $.02

Why don`t you just get a real truck?KW of course. The real key no matter the brand has as much to do with the driver as it does specs.Just kidding about the KW part...

Seeing as how I ran with the guy for a few years down and back to Florida I can say that my info is FIRST HAND about his mileage.....the Paccar engine is a friggin fuel guzzling P.O.S. IMO

Well anything is better than the 4 mpg route we just took. C15 ultrashift in a 05 International 9400I. Pulled a van with it and it's a midroof with no fairings on top. It's just the wrong gear plus that fairings gone. Didn't think that the fairings would make much difference but it does.

Check out this discussion for another option.

    http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tru...ightliner.html

They only sell Coronados now. They have about 100 2011s in stock with 300 more ordered as of a couple days ago.

This is supposed to help with mileage also - http://www.airtab.com/main.html
