I would use compressed air if you could also, from my experience air gets alot more out than just water, especially if you run in dusty conditions or haul a mixture of tree bark/sawdust like I used to, the crap that finds its way into filters/radiators is amazing...

Sometimes a CAC leaking will do that because the engine is running a little lean and will tend to run hotter.

Not the best way to word it. A diesel engine will not get hot when run lean like a gas engine. Diesels actually run cooler when lean.

In fact with a CAC leak (charge air cooler, air to air cooler, intercooler) on a diesel it will actually run opposite of lean, rich. Since its not getting the right amount of boost pressure for the fuel this could cause it to heat up more. A rich running diesel normally will run hotter.
