I have a n-14 red top rated at 460 hp. I have 727k on it and the rods and such were done at 500k. My oil pressure usually stays around 10 pounds at idle and up to 30 when driving. Sometimes after running for a while it will drop off to sometimes 8 to 6 pounds aprox by reading the guage. I know cummins uses volume over oil pressure becuase my 3406b cat runs over 50 pounds at idle! anyways i belive the cam bearings are leaking ( to the left of the starter) would this cuase a drop in oil pressure? The truck has a pretty good oil leak looks more like a driptroit than a cummins.. Just wonderin how that would affect oil pressure. I am prevoisly a cat man so im new to these motors. Thank you

A leak that will also cause a drop in oil pressure would be a MAJOR leak and the engine would run out of oil with in minutes. Always confirm your oil pressure with another mechanical gauge. If it is low, and an oil/filter change don't help, I would change the oil pressure regular. I have seen the oil pumps on N14 wear out and the gears just allow too much oil to bypass them.

I have see N14 oil pumps slip several times, but usually normal to 0 is the complaint. For what it's worth pull your piston cooling nozzles out I've seen lots of them break off too and cause major loss of pressure.
