Anyone have an idea why the level of fuel in my Davco filter would fluctuate with the amount of fuel that I have in my tanks? Have around 18000 mls on this service, fuel is about 1/4 way up the filter in Davco unit with 1/4 tank of fuel. When I fill up, level in Davco goes up to around half way up the filter. Just noticed it doing it this week, I don't think that is right. Truck does not feel like it is sucking air, any guesses?

Doesn't look like anyone has any experience with these things. Maybe just take the thing off.

Mine Fluctuates as well. I think you have nothing to worry about.
I change mine every 10,000 miles.larry2903 Thanks this. -
you have nothing to worry about. it has nothing to do with the amount of fuel you have in the tanks. when you drive to get fuel, your filter filters. when you add fuel the davco filters it. I have the same sys & some times the filter will need to be changed with service at 10,000 miles sometimes before at 8,000 miles, other times it is 3/4 full at 10,000 miles. you can park on a fri just after a week on the road & look at the level in the davco, then without starting the truck all weekend look at it mon morn & it will be a couple inches higher, than where it was fri. Always carry 2 spare filters. donaldson is about the best. oem detroit filters have to high a micron rating, cost a lot less & don't fill up to around 30,000 miles, but oem on this, is totally inferior.

I don't know if you can install a heater on a heaterless davco, I do know they are inexpensive on e-bay. the whole davco what I mean

Where is your filter mounted if it is bellow the top of the fuel tank when you fill the tank the fuel will seek its own level and if bellow the tank it will be higher in the davco

My filter is located towards front of the engine on the drivers side, up higher than fuel tanks. I usually run about 20,000 mls between service and have never had this filter plug up. Most of the time when I change it at time of service it has only used half of filter capacity. I do use fuel treatment to control condensation build up cause I go 2 or 3 days between fill ups. Usually use the Donaldson filter. Thanks for all the reply's, I just haven't noticed the fluctuation as much before.
