ISM 410 Turbo Problems

    Hi Everybody, long time reader, first time writer,Great site !!
    I Have an 2006 9400 and just recently the power went to he*&%, sometimes it would pull and sometimes it would not..sometimes it would make a whistling noise and rev and then, take off like a scared cat... my tech says he thinks I need a new turbo.. But Holy Smokes !!! they are $2995.exch and no one sells them but cummins any ideas out there ? I blocked off egr some time ago..can I go with a old M-11 turbo ? or is there a place for aftermarket?

    I ended up having Cummins change mine because they paid half. This was part of a good will program they had due to such a high failure rate. You're truck has to be less that 5 yr old with less than 500k miles on it. If your truck is too old I found Young and Sons in Indianapolis had the best price and he'll pay the shipping both way (for the core return). There number is: (317) 263-0960

    I would first be sure it is the turbo though. You could just have an actuator ($300) leaking air or the Turbo Controller ($700) leaking air also.

    I don't know of an aftermarket option for the ISM. If there was it would be very expensive and involve a new exhaust manifold and ecm reprogram. PDI does this for the ISX and it is around $6500 for everything.
