As I was leaving the DOT scales I stepped on it to get into traffic quick and the turbo started whistling a lot louder to the point it sounds like a police siren.

I should have mentioned that it is a T800 with a 475 cat, Mr Haney's tune to 600hp BS, and dual air cleaners, it always had the usual turbo whine that will only drive you crazy if you drive with the windows down, but now even my friend can hear it on the phone.

Symptoms? none, no more smoke, no lost of power, nothing, just different louder whistle, I've check all the turbo plumbing and everything seems the same, I took the wife for the second run and she noticed it right away and I can see people on the street and on their boats fishing turning to look when they hear it, so.

What should I look at, I don't know if I should worry about a new turbo in the near future.

any ideas and opinions are welcome.

    Thank you..............Eddy

The ribbing on the inside of your intake hose will cause a whistle. Ever had one of those ufo tubes that you twirled about your head? Same thing. My guess is that when you altered your filters, you altered a muffling that they may have given you.

I dont know of a easy fix on it as the flex hose is designed to absorb some vibration.

If I remember correctly you left have the stock turbo on your truck. What it sounds like happened is the thrust bearing is failing this allows the compressor wheel to cntact the compressor cover under boost. The sound should get worse as the boost goes higher. You need to take the air intake piping loose from the compressor cover and grab the shaft and see if you have any in and out play. When you pull out on the shaft it shouldn't contact the cover. You can also remove the band clamp holding the cover to the bearing housing to visually inspect the cover and wheel for contact. If its touched you need a new turbo. The shaft will have some side to side play, but again it can not touch the cover.

Give me a call, I have some BW Stage 1 turbos on the way to me now that will work great with your tune. I hope to have them by Wednesday

if your turbo doesn't check out to be bad, it may be something as simple as a bad gasket on the turbo that has developed a crack or pin hole.
