cummins 300 and roadranger 8 speed

    whats the thoughts on this combo guys..my truck now has a fuller 9ll this truck is a old truck but in very good shape a farmer has it and was hauling grain and what not..the trucks bed is in better sdhape then some of the 05's i work with now...its a ford l9000 with the cummins 300 and road ranger 8 speed oh yea its a 79 truck clean inside and out normal wear and tear in the seat but man everything else is in great shape as far as the trucks body and dump bed gotta go back with a charger to start it the batt. are dead since it hasnt been driven in a few years....what should i look for on this ??? im just looking to get a pretty good truck to go along with the 1 i have but dont want to go crazy haul dirt and stone local maybe 100 miles total...thanks for any help mike

    The 300 cummins should be fine. you won't set the world on fire, but it will easily get the job done. Maybe crack the base plug and check for water in the base before you start it. Don't be suprised if it smokes until it warms up, but then it should run clean. Check for excess base pressure once it's warmed up.
    The trans. should be fine as long as it has a gear low enough to get around if you do much off-road.
