Hi,
I bought a well used dump trailer over the weekend. It is in o.k. shape but will need some TLC. It has 11r24.5 tubeless tires on one axle and 10.00-22 tube tires on the other axle.
I am interested in taking off the 10.00-22 tires and putting on 11r24.5 tires on that axle too. Do I have to change anything other than the rims or are the brake drums different too? Is this a big expensive retrofit?
Thanks in advance,
Fred

All you need are the rims and tires. Also i would measure the width of the rim spacer compared to the other axle. Wire brush everthing and try and tighten the wheels evenly. Start at the top then go to the opposite lug at the bottom. Tighten things up a little and then put a block of wood, tire hammer whatever next to the tire on the ground, Spin the tire to see how true it is running. Trial and error, after a while you will get the hang of lining the wheels up. It helps too if all the wedges are the same, some guys will cobble things together just to get by.

Make sure when removing the old ones that after you loosen the nuts and before you remove them completely, that you whack the wedges with a hammer to loosen them...otherwise they may pop off and hit you.

What he said!!!
excellent advice Gambi80... -
recheck the torque and keep a close eye on the nuts--250 1bs on a dayton--and always seemsing to be loose
-
Also Do not use anykind of any sieze or oil on the Threads. It will cause those nuts to come loose faster than hell. Also when pulling the inner rim the spacer ring you will need to use a hammer to loosen the spacer ring. Then when putting them back on hand tight first then and only then get out the impact wrench to drive the wedges in. Sorry first boss had Antiques I learned how to change Daytons in my sleep I swear in Harvest season when the Temps could not stop hitting Culverts at times.
