OPTI IDLE...

Opti Idle,

The engine will start and then turn off on its own.

It will do this in order to run the either the heater or cooling system.

It takes some getting used to.

Personally I think it sux !!!

 

the opti idle I had would start the truck itself to cool or heat it as necessary its not bad at all

Maybe this should be something that some research outfit should look in to. How does having the truck engine start and stop while you are trying to sleep effect a driver's rest/ sleep cycles. I'll guess it could be as bad as the apnea results for some drivers.

I guess it depends on how tired I am, sometimes I wake up every time my TriPac starts or stops during the night. Sometimes an OptiIdle truck parked beside me will do the same thing. Never been in one though.

 

I drove a truck with Optimised Idle. I didn't hate it but it was annoying. I did try to bypass it a bunch of different ways. I think it will even pick up the brick on the pedal eventually. Given enough time I got used to it and it wasn't to bad.

 

nothing wrong with opti idle--it works ok--does take a bit of getting used to tho--and if you have the truck parked in the cold while you are at home --it will keep the engine warm --and batteries up--so you dont have any problems when you are ready to go
well that is if the opti idle works--that is the biggest problem---sometimes the mercury switches go out--but its life

 

I used an opti-idle for several months until it decided to finally bite the bullet. When it worked it was very nice because my company was saving fuel and I was staying cool. The opti ilde I had was based on what temprature you wanted you sleeper/cab to be. I would set the temprature that I wanted my sleeper to be and when hte desired temprature was reached than the truck would shut off. When the temprature inside the truck raised 6 degrees above what I had it set for then the truck would automaticly start back up, thus turning on the A/C and cooling the truck down again to my desired temprature. Now, with that being said, it does take alot of getting used to (for me anyway). I would be laying there sound asleep and all of a sudden my truck would start shaking and come to life from the engine cranking. All in all, when it worked it was very doable and me and my company were happy. When it finally broke, I had some time getting the mechanics to "bypass" the opti system but when they did, idling my truck all night was just fine with me too. The company didnt want to fix it so suddenly saving their fuel was not as important to me.
