Recently Schneider put me into a 2012 Cascadia. While the inside is a hotel compared to what I was in, and it rides nice, the Trailer ABS Indicator on the dash will not come on at start-up?
The mechanic told me the trailer ABS indicator is not suppose to come on when there's a malfunction with the trailer ABS. Nice guy.
I told him the FMCSA requires the trailer ABS to light up during the start-up so that I know the light is working.
Another mechanic said that there are LED lights and if there's a malfunction with the indicator then a fault code would come up. And since there's no fault code then there is nothing wrong with the system or indicator.
However, the tractor's ABS indicator comes on during the start-up. So wouldn't the same reasoning apply to that?
Unfortunately going up the chain isn't working since nobody is willing to go against the mechanics.
Is there anything advice? Real advice? I'm beginning to think that maybe I might be wrong and the trailer abs indicator isn't suppose to come on unless there is a problem with the trailer's abs system.
Also, Schneider took away the paper log books and the post-trip report is done over the computer so I can't have a mechanic sign-off on the trailer ABS indicator in the dash.:biggrin_25516:

according FMCSA and ECE abs fault lamp test is required. ABS lamp is powered with ignition power and grounded by ABS unit. if it is '12 Cascadia I sugest they installed Wabco ABS-E control unit. if it is powered every time you turn ign on you can hear ABS solenoid test click. if yes, check bulb and abs fault lamp wire. What pin on ABS unit and what wire I can tell you if you tell me ABS ECU #. I sugest you know its location.

One more q.... do you have MID 136 fault codes?

The ABS indicator in the truck finally worked when I hooked to a brand new trailer. As it turns out, according to a mechanic at a certain Orange company, the higher-ups in Green Bay, WI sent a memo instructing the mechanics to cut the trailer ABS wires so the outside yellow indicator on the trailer doesn't light up, as well as, the ABS indicator inside the truck's dash doesn't light up.
I've got an interview with Trimac in Illinois in about a week. I hope these guys give a #### about their drivers and equipment.

Trailer ABS/EBS unit ID is MID 137. U got new truck with new trailer, so U got 7 wire cord with CAN Truck - Trailer, so pull MID 137 fault codes.

Yep, there is trailer ABS fault lamp on dashboard, but some trailer makers add bull eye lamp on trailer I can see it in rear view mirror.
