Old gears: Transmission info of yesteryear.

I learned to float gears on the Mack 5x2. It was fun to drive.

 

no one ever mentioned mpg back then omg my 1271 detriot with 90 series injectors probably never saw 4 mpg

 

Let's wish for fuel to return to less than half a buck a gallon and overall freight rates to to be what they were back then and all the trucker needs to worry about is the horsepower to "gitter did".

 

But I love the exhaust note!

 

I want to put a 3406b cat with a 13speed and a 4 speed auxiliary transmission will a 8344d 4 spicer work??

true but running 4.11 vs a 3:55 it takes less power to turn a 4.11, less friction so would the temps be any higher? would think the biggest factor in temps is how much weight is being pulled, how much power is being put into the differential. in 4-wheelers, all tow packages come with higher numerical differentials- more torque multiplication. turning a 2.79 differential takes way more power than turning a 4.11- more power = more heat generated
