Because everyone says so. If it ain't yellow under the hood, it's no good...ya know?

I think everyone holds it in high regard because it's the last version before all the EPA crap really started.

Wow, after 1hr you're already complaining? Must be a union guy lol

Honestly it's the last good engine CAT produced before the turd MBN and fuel hogging ACERT. It can easily be tuned to pit out good hp while maintaining high mpg if driven right. Also it has been known to go well over 1 million+ miles before needing overhauled but again only if it's properly maintained and serviced. Plus it has no emissions crap to contend with or repair/replace.

    That's about it.

One hour after first post and you expect a book. Saturday afternoon, give the members some time.
As the guys said, the 6NZ was the last good program before the Acert bugs started eating the garden. It is a smooth, nice running motor.
And apparently, you already know the 6NZ has more electrics.
Mr. Haney will be along and be able to give all the details...

If you've "heard a lot of good things" then you've no doubt already heard "what make them the motor to have."

It is basically just a highly advanced 3406. The latest in a long running and well respected engine family. One of the last to be built before things got... complicated.

From my own personal experience with this engine I would call it a highly efficient and reliable engine. Mine is in an 01 W900l with 3.90 gears. I pull flatbeds loaded to gross with all sorts of steel components. I typically run round trip, Houston to Los Angeles and back, and average 7.5 mpg.

In 600,000 miles it's had no mechanical needs other than the usual preventative and routine maintenance. The only warranty work to every be performed was an ECM swap at 230,000 miles. This was done to eliminate an intermittent drivability/rough idle/surging problem.

That is, in my opinion, what makes this the engine to have. But like any mechanical device... It will not take care you if you do not take care of it.

    SHC Thanks this.
