My truck has a Borg Warner Kysor fan clutch on it. I noticed the clutch had a little bit of slop in it so I bought a new one. I installed it today and there is still a little bit of play, although not as much as the old one. I checked the hub for slop acording to the instructions that came with the new clutch and the hub checked out fine. I talked to a repair shop I use and the lead mechanic said quite a few of the trucks they own have the same type of clutch and they have play in them too. They rebuilt a few of them to see if that helped and it made no difference for theirs either.
Is this a common issue with this type of hub/clutch assembly? All the other trucks we've owned have had Horton's in them and there is zero play in them. The Horton's also look like they are better built and are cheaper, around $900 for complete hub/clutch, compaired to $500 for the BW clutch and another $900 for the hub.
anyone running BW Kysor fan clutch

i have the bog warner / kysor not sure on the spelling has no play in it at all

Paccar has gone back to the B/W hubs as factory installs, we routinely swap them over to Horton. They seem to work ok on the older engines but dont stay together long on the new stuff.

I have a cat 3406e with a Kysor clutch and no play

We have 3 Kysor's and no play. Also we've had much less problems with them then the horton fan hubs. Ive heard alot of horror stories about brand new hortons and we've had trucks that have gone through 3 in the time others are still on the orignal kysor

i'm still trying to figure this thing out. When the clutch is locked up and there is zero play, but when the fan is free wheeling therre is a small amount of play in just the front half of the clutch assembly. The hub assembly is fine, no play in the bearings or anything else. There appears to be something in regards to the way the two halves of the clutch are held together that is allowing the play when the fan is freespooling.
