I've just started major tear down of my 60 series Detroit because of air combustion in the water. I'm looking for the right tool to get the sleeves out with an inframe. Also would like help on keeping or putting back in time.
Truck is 2000 volvo with 830,000 miles. Really running great but want to fix before any damage. Especially since last month I put new injectors in.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
This is my first big truck tear down. For that matter first diesel rebuild.
Probably in over my head, but just can't imagine anyone else messing with my truck.

What do you need to know?? Apex makes a puller......$1000 (about).

Getting in time???? You have to have timing tools for that too! One tooth off and you will either ###### or advance the fueling and possibly ruin your injector rollers. They are porcelin and break EASY! You will also need a special 12 mm socket to put the rack back on and its a pain keeping the rocker arms straight without a lifting tool. If your doing a total rebuild.....Id recommend a new bull gear also. Means the front cover has to come off and new crank seals installed. Trust me.....I do a lot of these overhauls.

unfortunately, catmechanic is correct about getting those tools.you could invent something to push the liners up.don't try to pin the cam and crank without the proper timing tools (trust me!)you will need the extra deep socket for the front and rear cam cap bolts.glad to hear you're giving it a shot.make sure you don't guess at answers when you have questions.good luck.

Made a custom tool to hold the cam gear in place while apart.
Bull gear and idle gear look pretty good.
How come no harmonic balancer but is very smooth balanced while running?
Now having touble getting the liners out. Any suggestions? Or any one with right tool to pull them out with the pistons?

Went out this morning with the jack holding against liner and it did push it out over night.
Now the same holding on number 3 liner.
Can hardly beleive how good the liner did look. No signs of and cavatiation or corrison. I would consider just reringing the pistons if it wasn't for having to pull the liners to get the pistons out.
Shouldn't it have looked little corroded with 830,000 miles?
    Thanks again for the help
