Modern ATF has friction inhibitors and things in it engineered to not burn. No way I'd ever dump it in my fuel and I definitely would not abuse my rods and mains with it, even for only a few seconds. If you're worried about the oil sample it. If you want lubricity for the injectors dump wal mart super tech tcw3 2stroke oil in the fuel.Oil turns black,why worry over nothing... ATF is for auto tranny's in cars!!!

 

It's also for power steering in a lot of big trucks

 

delo 400 is a semi/syn oil that you can run 25000 mi if hwy not dusty places as long as you use extended service interval oil filters that are rated for 25000 mi like donadson or fleetguard.some oil filters are better than others and recently i read that donaldson kept oil cleaner earlier than most for this topic.changing hot is always better also.

 

when I change my oil, engine is at operating temp. I take off oil pan plug & punch 2 holes in the oil filters & let drain for approx 30 min while I get everything set up to do the complete service, grease, check rears trans ,e.t.c. after I am done & I check the oil on stick, it is so clear, that is is hard to tell where the oil level is. I never had black looking oil, right after a change, but could see how it could happen if changed when cold. 10,000-12,000 miles tops on my oil changes. 10 if near the house on wknd or 11,000 12 if i'm out on the road & will wait til I'm back home.

 

Wow , you guys change your oil a lot. Best to err on the side of caution I suppose but I take mine out to 25 000 and take a sample and drain. I run an OPS and my samples come back saying the oil is perfectly fine. If I weren't such a baby I'd keep that oil in and sample in another 25000 as per OPS and their labs recommendation.

I do believe that there must be some intangible that the labs aren't testing for as was recently discussed in another thread here. I can't think of any other reason that the first gallon takes 17-18000 miles to go through, and the second only takes another 7 or 8000.

I also believe that you cannot say where the best balance is without samples. You may have a problem and you oil is garbage after 5000, you don't know.

My truck does not idle, runs 730 mi per day in a slip seat regional operation and changing every 10-12000 would get very expensive and really be overkill by all indicators.

After an oil change , done on my engine usually within a half hr of getting off the road, my oil is very difficult to even see on the dipstick.

 

In my opinion, if your that concerned about the color of the oil, You may need to get some form of an electric pump. When you drop your oil, and remove your filter, get the pump hooked up to the filter and use the electric to purge the oil galleries. 5 gallons ought to be enough to force through all the galleys of the passages. Far easier to purge with the correct oil than to use fuel or trans oil, and mess with the viscosity of your next filling.

I was going to say, There's alot of oil that sits in the crank, cam/head on a big truck. Plus when you drain, sludge can sit in the pan holding dirty oil. Just as long as you follow the scheduled intervals, you'll be okay.
