On a 1997 3406e stock computer, with the AC off at what temp will the cooling fan come on?

It will depend on the engine serial number and programming, but it will be either 205* F or 217* F

More than likely it will be 205*F

    that should be 205*F

There could be a big difference in what the gauge is reading compared to what the ECM is reading. This engine has two and possibly third temperature sensors.

    1) for the ECM

    2) for the gauge

and a possible third sensor for a high temperature warning light and buzzer in the dash.

The only way to be able to see if the gauge is accurate is to hook up a laptop to compare the ECM to the dash gauge. I've seen as much as a 17*F difference in some trucks between these two. The engine isn't hot, but the dash gauge is showing it much hotter than the ECM is. I'd trust the ECM coolant temperature reading, before I'd trust the dash gauge.

I always use the digital ecm display has been more reliable info.

I let it run at 1000 rpm for an hour to get everything warmed up, temp got to 201 never heard the fan kick on. That is with AC off.

When I do this with AC on never gets above 195.

Just wanted to know what settings are.
